The underlying principle of the League of Jewish Women has always been to carry out welfare work. Our volunteers are greatly respected and appreciated, and this work remains our priority. We boast a varied programme of welfare work carried out by our groups at local levels. Our volunteers undertake regular sessions as well as ad hoc support for both Jewish and non-Jewish organisations and the wider community. We volunteer in hospitals, hospices, prisons, helping children to read in schools and with numerous other community projects. We have long-standing volunteering arrangements with Norwood, Chai Cancer Care, Association of Jewish Refugees, World Jewish Relief, Victim Support and Citizens Advice Bureau. We hope the following gives you a taste of the many welfare projects in which we are involved.
Our North West region has regular welfare rotas in charity shops, schools, hospitals and hospices, talking newspapers, friendship clubs and community centres. Volunteers provide hand care, reminiscence groups, administration support and befriending.
