The children of refugees face the challenges of disrupted education, cultural confusion, lack of knowledge of English and of the UK education system plus parents who cannot provide homework support.

Many refugee and asylum seeking children didn’t have the possibility to go to school in their own countries because of the war which has completely destroyed the structure of their society or because of extreme poverty. When they arrive in this country, they are obviously put in a specific class depending on their age. However, their level of schooling and preparation is often not adequate for the level provided in that class. For this reason, children often feel that they are behind compared to their classmates and this can have a huge impact on their confidence, self-esteem and ability to learn.

We are running a Homework Club (Maths and English) for refugee children (Year 1 to Year 6) during the weekends and some evenings.
