Falls prevention

The falls prevention programme runs in day/activity centres, lunch clubs and other community settings to reach the widest possible audience. In the UK an older person dies as a result of an accidental fall at home every 5 hours, a tragic statistic, but one that highlights the importance of this programme.

Health promotion

Our health promotion courses advise older people, their families and carers on topics such as healthy eating, regular eye checks, managing medicines, foot care, hazards in the home and keeping active. These run in community venues around the borough.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a central element of the falls prevention programme. Medical evidence has shown that Tai Chi exercise is good for balance and muscle strengthening, which in turn helps to prevent falls. Ageing Well has established many classes throughout Barnet.
